i have a 3.1td 93 bighorn and sometimes it just wont start, turn over or even try to start. i do get all the usual lights up on the dash etc but its just dead. i did post a note about this a while ago but had no real answers.
i have now found out wot the problem is.if i wiggle the auto gear lever as im turning the key it starts.
is there a switch or connector under the centre consol, if so it may be just a bit loose but how do i get to it.
has anyone else had this problem.
at least i know i can start it now but its a bit annoying and would like to sort it out.

Yes there is - well found.

It's called the inerlock switch and stops you starting an auto in gear (the whole creeping forwards thing). I think that if you take off the console you'll be able to get to it?

There's a few posts in the transmission section about it though.

Its proberly the inhibitor switch on the gear box (stops it starting if not in park or neutral) its on the o/s of the box it’s a triangle looking thing fixed on with one large nut and a smaller bolt, the grease in them  goes hard after years of use carefully remove it clean it out re grease and that should fix your fault. There is a post somewhere showing how to do this.  Mick

ok but i thought that was 4 reversing bleeper which is slow on mine and i do need to clean and regrease it anyway, maybe it dose the start inhibiter aswell, do u know if there are any elecrtrical connectors under the auto gear selecter or should i just do the regrease first and see if it sorts out the start problem.
i really dont want to remove the centre consol as it looks like a big job
