Hi all Members,
Just joined the club Ive owned my swb trooper for 6 years with about 140 thou on the clock. The rad sprang a hole a few months ago and I was advised they all tend to rot out the cores. I did a tempory repair with a jampot lid... I found the leak and made a small hole in the centre of the jampot lid. I wedged it in place with a bit of wood and forced some builders expanding fixer foam into the hole in the lid. Obviously this went through the core and after an hour it set and I cleaned off the excess and refilled with water. It was only supposed to be a tempory repair but its still holding pressure after 3 months. Obviously its a bodge but it saves £150 for a new core.....May help someone out

diggerjohn,
Are you in the UK, or somewhere more civilised?
Milner Offroad are doing new rads (non-exchange) for around GBP150.00.
Echoing PV, personally, I would never take any chances with a cooling system, having suffered a totalled Mazda engine due to rapid coolant loss some years ago. There is little warning, and the effects are pretty expensive.

I'm with RG on this one .. all the way.....
Even if your alert enough not to blow the engine, what price being towed off a motorway or other inconvenience and still plus the price of a rad anyway.
You've had the Scarbro warning 'The cores rotten' i'm all for emergency fixes and it sounds good.

A good radiator specialist may be able to repair or recore it for less than the cost of a new one. If the rad is aluminium avoid getting chemicals like traffic film remover, particularly the stuff the use/sell for trucks as it will eat the alumnium if not washed off thoroughly. I had a rad on a Seat Toldedo just dissolve and the radiator guy reckoned it was because of this. _________________ Phil

I took one off my Monterey, as the top hose pipe fixing had a rip in it. It's plastic/hard-ish PVC
It would not work with the Kenlowe fan sensor I had which involves a rubber insert for the temperature probe. It works fine with the standard hose, though, as the damage is well "downstream" of the jubilee clip mounting area.
Apart from this problem, I would not have replaced it.
If you would like this one, please mail me off-list and I will bung it on eebuygum
