|

Hello to everbody, what a good site to find out about.
I have aquired a half dead 3.0d.It gradualy got worse at starting until it died. Now it will start with a good tow to get the engine speed up enough or the dreaded sniff,I know bad idea. When it does run it is very harsh at higher revs, like a diesel knock, white smoke, lethargic revs from tickover.
What I have done up to press.
Remanufactured the stack pipes on the tank due to sucking air.Fuel filter primer checked and ok.Removed sump and checked pick up pipes, all ok.Put 5w30 back in as prescribed.
Ecu was dead but an ecu specialist took the code from it and fit into another.I assume it might need putting on a tech2 to set everything up again but think it should still start.
Checked glow plugs, only 3 would come out at the moment and I didn't want to break the other so left it alone. The 3 work so it should still start reasonably well on them.
Compression checked the 3 cylinders and found I only have about 26 bar on all 3.When it runs I have no water pressure probs so can't suspect head gasket. The compression is 3 bar lower than Isuzus minimum spec so think this is the prob.
Do the high pressure oil pumps give any pressure problems or is it a case that they work or are knackered.
Hope someone can shed new light on this instead of the Isuzu agent petrol/matches I keep threatening it with.
Thanks |

Welcome
I'm pretty sure the 3.0 gurus will be able to throw a bit of light on the problem _________________ |

sounds like a compression problem to me as 3 bar is quite a bit to be short of and the 3.0l has been known to do pistons and bores due to diluted oil |

If the problem is as Eithan suggests I would be speaking with a good dealer (see the dealer section for the best rated) and it may be your engine could be sorted by Isuzu at no or very little cost to you. |

Thanks for the replies.
As yet I don't know if it has had its recalls,I need to phone Isuzu or my local dealer.
Hopefully they will have some good news for me. |

Finally got myself organised last week as I have been too busy and booked the trooper into K T Greens on the 3rd sept.
4 new injectors, sleeves and ceramic heater under recall but it still wouldn't start so the diagnosed a faulty cam sensor.
Just picked it up this morning, now it starts but is rough so I am in the queue for a free short motor fitting mid october, what a result! Excellent service K T Greens. |

Great result, Ive just had a new motor (full) done free From KT Green as i have had the same problems as you & more see catchercase in the forum. I was booked in November 2007 but the work wasnt done until early march due to previous troopers having new engines done ! I had a new clutch fitted as well only cost me £95 + vat no labour as it was in bits the trooper is like brand new (well it is) they gave me a copy of the invoice far the parts use and it all came to just short of 10k and thats just for parts though they did put a new ECU on as well. The service they provided was second to none and the work took 10 days to complete so it will be well worth the wait, you will not be disopointed

Glad to hear that you are both happy with the service so far. It's always a pleasure to deal with straight forward, genuine people.
We seem to be on a roll with 3.0s at the moment. Must have had 10+ through the workshop just last week for recalls, 5 of them non runners. All went out running....although some better than others! |

When i went to pick up my Trooper from K T Green with a new engine fitted @ about 4.50 pm as i was driving home i only got 8 miles from the garage and she broke down just lost all power. I managed to coast into a bus lay bye stop and tried starting but completly dead. so i rang the Garage But it was just shutting and only a sales man left and nothing could be done thur and then he advised that if i could get the trooper back and leave it they would look at it in the morning. So i rang the AA and after 6 hrs finaly got recovered back to the Garage. Next day phone call from garage saying ECU knackered and they would fit one free (waranty) the next day So thats how i came about a new ECU a Long story but i got there .. |
