|
|
As some of you may know - there has been a mix up of fuel in our Trooper.
Since Draining 95% of the Petrol out of it, and topped with Diesel the Trooper runs fine, and starts when cold fine / normal.
The problem comes with some warmth in the engine. If the car is run for maybe a mile, and the Engine temp needle is just moving , the trooper still starts ok.
Once up to working tempreture the troop becomes a pig to start.
I have changed the fuel filter and did note that there was a strong whiff of Petrol from the old one.
Someone reckons that the weak amount of Petrol still being pulled through in the Diesel is causing it to early detonate when drawn in to the warm engine, and preventing it from exploding / starting properly.
Any truth to this? I read elsewhere that some intentionally sometimes add petrol to Diesel (in HGV's granted -)
Any other good reasosn why the Trooper won't start easily when Warm ? It cranks for about 15 secs.

My MK1's handbook actually gave you a table of how much petrol to chuck in according to how far below freezing it was outside to preven the diesel waxing up so on an older engine a weak mix of petrol isn't a problem. The 3.0L is a different beast though as its common rail so who knows. _________________ Phil

When mine starting getting difficult to start it was the oil pressure sensor - it may just be coincidence? _________________ 3.0TD LWB Citation |

Do you think the Oil Pressure sensor is that sensitive to tempreture - I recall from Physics lesson that heat and pressure are all related, but I can' see that how if it start fine cold or cool , why it would have an issue when Warm. _________________ If you google google it breaks the whole internet |

Well, it seems we have another key difference between the 3.0 and the 3.1.
A 3.1 will run on Diesel with some petrol in - no problem at all, but the 3.0 won't.
Flush the tank, lines, filets ( and an oil change whilst I was at it) filled it all right up , and bobs you uncle - as before it runs alright, but the Warm start issue has disappeared.

That's odd - I've never had a problem with mine with 5ltrs of petrol in a tankful of 50/50 veggie/DERV which is 6.25%. |
