Anyone know where i can get a 24v radio for my jcb, not bothered about cd, just want a decent radio, the one fitted can hardly pick up any FM station's even when only a few miles from the transmitter, sick of 5 live, changed ariel, no difference Just a *beep* radio
I complained about it when the jcb was new but believe it or not the stereo is not a warranty part _________________ 2011 3.0l Hilux Invincible

It knackers the battery you wire it to as it never gets charged properly. _________________ 2011 3.0l Hilux Invincible

Hi just buy a cheap dropper and wire it infront of the radio - or buy a new one from Iveco or Merc i think they all have 24 volts ones
How long have JCB had 24 volts i always remember them being 12volt?
if you want a dropper pm me i have a spare £10 inc postage
cheers

When you connect 12v to a 24v system, the 12v battery gets pulled down causing an inbalance. One battery gets overcharged and the one you have connected the stereo to gets undercharged, i did this to my previous jcb, 2 large 220ah batteries would barely last a year.
Would a voltage dropper not pull the batteries down when standing as it will need to be on 24-7 to keep the memory on the stereo _________________ 2011 3.0l Hilux Invincible

Hi first thing is it would pull 24v and the drain is less than .03amp to keep a radio memory how do you think the fitted radios keep their memory ?
cheers

Yes i know the radios draw a small amount of current to keep their memory but the voltage droppers i have used before can use upto 1amp before anything is connected to them which is fine if the machine is running everyday.
The machine can stand idle for anything upto 3 weeks without bieng started (especially in this finacial climate ) i just don't want the voltage dropper to flatten the battery.
It won't "bump" start _________________ 2011 3.0l Hilux Invincible

Old trucks used to be 24 volt radio's but most new trucks have droppers built in,and 12 volt accesory
sockets as well _________________ Mickyboy

Thank's to all your advice i now have a plan
I have a Blaupunkt radio/tape i took out of my van 3 years ago for a cd, been in the cuboard ever since tried it today, work's fine even better, it has kept it's memory 3 years with no power, i'm impressed
Even though it has a wire for a perminant live it still keeps the memory when disconnected so i am goin to fit a dropper to the ingnition and this radio should do the trick
My parents used to have a 7.5 tonne horsebox, come to think of it it too had a built in dropper with an accesory socket, it had to be started once a week to keep the batteries up even when they were new, we ended having to take a battery lead off when it was stood a while, which was often _________________ 2011 3.0l Hilux Invincible
