Corsa 1400 8valve 1994
Just sorted one corsa now it's my other daughter's car.
From what she tells me the thrust bearing has been realy noisy for about a week.
Today she can't get any gears with engine running. So i've drove it home by putting it
in third gear and starting it on the starter motor,it drove home fine but if you put your
foot on clutch pedal it go's to the floor and there is a squealing noise.
I asume this is the thrust bearing or preasure plate collapsed,a'm I on the right track here.
If so is it a big job. Thanks for looking Mick _________________ Mickyboy

sounds like the bearing has collapsed or pushed through the pressure plate |

I may be wrong but you used to be able to change a clutch on them without taking the gearbox out, 15mins of a job.
you used to take a plate off the bottom to get to it and the spiggot shaft could be slid back from the end of the box. _________________ |

me old astra was like that, undo the big nut on the end of the gearbox and pull the shaft out then undo the big plate underneath, did a cavalier that way as well,
one of vauxhalls better ideas, unlike the vectra _________________ atb kevin

if i remember right you need some horseshoe shaped clips to hold the clutch plate to the pressure plate or something (was 14 years ago when i did it _________________ atb kevin

First job look for plate that comes off
Got a spare gearbox from a corsa i'll have a look at that first asuming it's the same.

You might be lucky and it'll have the plate, also depends on the the type of flywheel it has as to wether you could do clutch through bottom. Otherwise corsa gearboxes are very easy to get out _________________ landcruiser 80 series 4.5, 35's/33's for road, 2inch lift, discreet winch, sliders/armour, factory lockers, stainless side exit +++++ |

They stopped doing it though!! was only really the early corsa's that had the plate, like i said they also changed the fly wheels which meant you had a plate but still had to take the box out! even if thats the case, box out, new clutch box back in 2 hours at most 8 valves were easy as plenty space! _________________ landcruiser 80 series 4.5, 35's/33's for road, 2inch lift, discreet winch, sliders/armour, factory lockers, stainless side exit +++++ |

Spot on,bearing imbeded in the presure plate so had to part engine and box,a nightmare.
got another small problem, the car runs rough intermitently could it be anything to do with the alternator as there are some strange noises coming from that area somtimes.
Thanks for all the advice it's much apprieated Mick _________________ Mickyboy

Think i've found it,pulled a plug from one of the sensers around the single port injection thingy
and the engine started ticking over faster,(to fast) took it for a run and it went fine. Then switched
off, when i switched back on it ticked over normal and is now running fine (so far)So wandering if i had disturbed it and it has now reset itself or somthing like that???
Thanks again for all the input Mick
PS thingy is a technical term _________________ Mickyboy
