HI MIKE.
HOPE THIS WILL BE OF SOME HELP AS THE DETAILS ARE FROM A MANUAL ..
THE TPS SENSOR IS A POTENTIOMETER WITH ONE END CONNECTED TO 5 VOLTS FROM THE ECM AND THE OTHER TO GROUND,A THIRD WIRE IS CONNECTED TO THE ECM TO MEASURE THE VOLTS FROM THE TPS AS THE THROTTLE IS MOVED THE VOLTS CHANGE..WHEN THROTTLE IS CLOSED THE OUTPUT AT THE TPS IS APPROX. (.5volts)AS THROTTLE OPENS THE OUTPUT INCREASES SO WIDE OPEN THROTTLE IS APPROX. (4.5volts)
testing..
IF YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE SENSOR SO THE WIRES ARE ON THE LEFT (A)IS AT THE BOTTOM +5REF
(B)IS IN THE MIDDLE GROUND
(C)IS AT THE TOP AND IS THE TPS SIGNAL
1)backprobe with a high impedance voltmeter at the outside TPS terminals (A+B)
2)with the key ON and engine off,the voltmeter reading should be approx 5.0 volts
3)if the voltage was not as specified, either the wiring to the TPS or the ECM may be faulty.correct any faults
4)backprobe with voltmeter, center and lower terminals(C+B)
5)with the key ON engine off and throttle closed, the TPS voltage should be approx 0.5-1.2 volts
6)verify that the TPS voltage increases or decreases smoothly as the throttle is opened or closed.make sure to open and close the throttle very slowly in order to detect any abnormalities in the TPS voltage reading
7)if the voltage is not as specified, replace the sensor
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1)disconnect the negative bettery cable and remove air filter and gasket
2)disengage the electrical connector
3)unfasten the two TPS attaching screw assemblies
4)remove the TPS from the throttle body
5)remove the TPS seal
to install..
1)install the TPS seal over the throttle shaft
2)with the throttle valve closed, install the TPS on the throttle shaft, rotate it counter clockwise,to align the mounting screws
3)install the two TPS mounting screw assemblies
4)engage the electrical connector
5)install the air cleaner and gasket
6)reattach the battery cable
HOPE THAT THIS IS OF HELP TO YOU LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES WHAT I'VE TYPED COMES FROM A MANUAL SO SHOULD BE CORRECT..
