Hi Folks. Just bought my first 4x4. It is a lwb 93 3.1 Citation.
However it comes with some faults. It has a leaking front shock absorber and I will have to replace it. So what do you recommend for a trooper that will be used primarily for on road towing?
It also has a loose front anti-roll bar tie rod. Where can I get a hold of those?
It comes with a FSH and was recently serviced. Anything else i should be checking?

Thanks

I'd just get a pair of shocks from Milners off road, they may be able to help on the anti-roll bar tie rod, if not then it's a breakers or main dealer.

Looked at the Milner site and they want £30 each for front shockers. can anyone tell me what type they are?
Also found Pro comp ones at a similar price. has anyone any experience of these?

Got my Trooper home yesterday and work should start this weekend. As I stated this is my first 4x4 but it is not the first car I will have had to work on.

Hi,
I recently bought a pair Pro comps for the front of my Mk 1 2.8TD
and they seem to be ok.
Remember though you have to add some money on for those
fancy coloured boots as they don't come with any.
Others here have used Milners shocks and found them to work alright.

Milners fronts were Tokico and rears KYB Gas-a-justs when I bought them end of last year. Pro-comps are supposed to be reasonable but as Breach said you need to buy the boots seperately. I would have thought you'd struggle to find anything much cheaper than thirty quid a corner that are worth having, remember, 4x4's are generally harder on shocks than a normal car as they tend to have more suspension travel and get worked very hard if used off road.

Thanks for that guys.
I know this is a bit of a heresy but my Trooper was bought for mainly towing and I wanted to improve its road manners. I found it a bit crashy over the bumps. aside from replacing the shocks and tie-rods is there anything else I can do?

Maybe replace suspension bushes with poly ones but 4x4's by their nature tend to be a bit more crashy as the suspension has more weight carrying capacity, they do smooth out when loaded though. Are 95's leaf or coil sprung at the back? If it's leaf sprung like the MK 1's then check the shackle bushes as they may have seized (like mine!) and this stops the spring flexing properly and tends to make it much harsher. I know in the USA you can get greasable shackle bolts so you can pump grease in every service to keep em supple. If it's coil sprung then probably not much you can do other than making sure everything is in good condition and tyre pressures are right etc.
