Hi guys, im new here and a BIG hello from me!!
Please excuse me for joing the forum as i feel like a bit of cheeky sod for joining as i dont own an Isuzu, well.....not a whole one.
I have recently bought myself a Landrover 90 that has had this engine put in as a replacement engine (very common ive heard) and have overall so far been very impressed with its apparent strength and willingness to pull. I have, since purchase, run into a number of issues, but not really to do with the engine itself.....more like everything else but!!!LOL i can hear the laughing now!!
Anyways, enough chat. The purpose of this post is to accertain the oil volume (in litres) and correct viscosity etc (syth/non-synth) required after a filter change and i have tried in vain to trawl the existing posts but the majority seem to be regarding the 3.1 Bighorn and whilst i have read that they are essentially the same engine but tweaked i was hesitant to go with what i read until i had some concrete confirmation as it were.
Also lads, if i have placed this post in the wrong section/topic please forgive me and the same goes for the fact it may be already answered
I will learn the forum ropes as time passes by im sure, allbeit with a mods toe up my proverbial snorkel!
Cheers in advance |

Hello there, i too have a 90 with isuzu engine (engines currently in bits for re-build)
Anyway you want 10w40 oil and the book says its a 5.5 litre capacity, personally i have never been able to get more than 5 litres out of mine but buy 6 litres just incase (keep 1 lite in back of truck) _________________ Isuzu 2.8 powered Land Rover 90 |

Thanks Matt_D
Was starting to think that nobody read these questions anymore!! Your info is valuable, thanks again.
While i "have you on the line" id like to know if you've ever had to tackle any works involving the injector pump? i have a quite bad leak on mine from the injector 'manifold' side of the pump. cant seem to find anyone that sells seal/gasket kits for them.....
anyway, thanks again for the response |

for the leak on your injection pump any fuel injection specialist should be able to get gaskets for you |

thankyou Grandad,
do you think that i will have to actually go to the trouble of letting a specialist order these for me or will i be able to overhaul this myself, i feel tha i could probably mange a gasket change on this half of the pump at least.
Thanks for everybody's input BTW
Greatly Apreciated |

if you do it yourself it must be spotlessly clean and wash any parts in clean diesel blow dry or use paper not rag |

Hi there again Grandad,
after trawlling the internet i have found a fairly comprehensive pictorial guide and if i'm honest it scared me!!
I have also located someone that can sell me a seal kit for around £25 + VAT, if i want a seal kit that is SVO/WVO compatible, its an extra £50!! bit gutted really as i was looking to this end in the future!!
To have the pump overhauled by someone else was in excess of £260 + VAT, dont know whether to succumb to that or have a crack my self? quite interesting inside but shook my confidence a little when i saw all pictures and parts. |

Hi, I have had experiences of diesel pumps, i had a leak on mine where the top section meets the body so i had it re-condition for around £300 inc VAT
To take off is a bit tricky apart from the wiring, fuel lines and the vacumn lines etc there is a 'L' shaped bracket holding the back of the pump to the block, three nuts holding the pump onto the timing housing one of which is a real PITA to get to, its the very bottom one btw and then the nut holding the pulley on.
Lock the fuel pump pulley with a bolt and undo the pulley nut first though, otherwise you will have troubles.
I'm giving my engine a full rebuild at the moment just waiting for new pistons so if you need any photos give me a shout and i'll email them to you. _________________ Isuzu 2.8 powered Land Rover 90 |

From memory, 5 liters is enough for the 4JB1T inclusive of oil filter change. Oil use is 15W40 and Mineral oil is perfectly fine unless you use in very cold temperature.
IMO, the 4JB1T is a better engine than the 4JG2-TC. |

Hi All - can anyone confirm what is the oil running pressure range of the Isuzu 2.8 Trooper 5 bar or 10 bar - I need to buy the relevant VDO Oil pressure gauge for my Defender 110 conversion - and what a car it is with thei super engine by the way! - tahnks to all Isuzu owners for the kind advice to all Land Rover Isuzu hybrids owners!

I got a seal kit from Diesel Bob, (google him) £39 + vat, Delivered next day.
The pump will be a Bosch VE type. I tried a Bosch service centre but "We don't do parts, You'll have
to order them from Isuzu".
The seal I ended up fitting came from the bearing and agricultural dealer literally next door to them!
There isn't as much about the 2.8 as there is about other engines. They are that good! |

my method for converting the landy to run on isuzu scale, was just add some chosen resistors into the wiring between sensor and gauge. it now reads on landy gauge just below the end of white mark when running, as with land rover. i did calculate the values and if im near the car at the weekend il tell u the resistor values, and colour codes if i can find them |
