has anyone had any experience of hand held cb's? i'm looking into a cb but was thinking about a handheld, main reason is i've got a few electrical upgrades already (ipod, phone kit etc) didn't want attract too much attention with the aerial and running out of space to fit things!!
any advice gratefully recieved. |

I've got some of those, and the accessory rubber ducks which clamped on the collapsed ariel!
The handhelds only work for short range though, so you may find you would like a vehicle mounted ariel.
Cobra make a set which the controls are all mounted on the mic, so the box can be mounted out of the way somewhere and if you got a mag mount ariel, it only need to be fitted when you need it. _________________ Isuzu Trooper SWB 3.0DT Commercial |

Thanks for the replys guys, i'm gonna look into what's out there. It'll only be for off roading so magnetic aerial a good idea, I do a bit of marshalling and wanna start using my troop instead of my mates la#@y hence the need for a cb. |

In that case, cheap normal cb with a cig lighter plug and a mag mount.
It will work out cheaper and better than a hand held _________________ |

The little PMR'S 466 are good...cheaper about same range distance and no nutters on them. Well not yet anyway. _________________ Isuzu Duty Trooper 1993 Tdi LWB. |

I've used one of these hand-held cb radios and found it great. |

I took the rig laning in January (stuck it in Sam and Pauls truck) The thing may as well have been welded to the roof _________________ |

Hand-helds are fine for laning purposes, I have a mate who comes laning with me in his Landy lightweight, he has no CB (and it's a bit difficult to put a magmount on a motor made of aluminium - and with a canvas roof a DV mount is out of the question!) but I lend him my hand held and away we go. It's an old Alba I paid £20 for, 3W output, UK 40 Channels, clamp on rubber-duck, still good for about 4-8 miles range.
