Yep, but bear in mind that I'm referring to my 94. Inside the door skin is the lock assembly, which consists of a set of rods (from inside push-down button to lock, from door handle to lock, etc.) and if one of those is bent (the one that moves the mechanism to "unlock") or snapped, you'd get your symptoms

Hi,

Thanks Again - was just hoping not have to take off the inside panel. Will wait for the better weather and have a go. Have ordered a new key from Vauxhall anyway just in case - mine is twisted and I did not want to take a cutting from it. Might be defeatest and fit an alarm which would take care of the problem using central locking.

Just a bit dissapointed at the build quality of the Monterey/Trooper I am used to older 1989 and 1992 BMW 530 and 730 where the build quality is excellent and parts cheap. Bearing in mind this is a 1997 with only 88,000 miles and no off road use.
