| Hi everyone, Ihave a '94 bighorn 3.1 diesel auto, which we've had for about five years and never had a problem with -until now! when towing our caravan if I ease off the throttle to slow down and then try to accelerate I get a banging noise and a jerking from the transmission. When driving solo it never does it, no matter what distance I drive, but when towing there doesn't seem to be any pattern as to when this happens, ie sometimes after maybe 20 miles, sometimes after quite a bit further. I've tried to make the problem happen to try and diagnose what it is, but it only does it when it chooses to!! At first I was convinced it was the gearbox, but then I was thinking it could be the rear diff, and now I'm thinking I have no idea what it is, so I hoping for some ideas from you guys on here who have a wealth of knowledge of these vehicles. Thanks in advance, Ron |

Could be brake band if it bangs into gear like that.
Have you check ATF level and to see if it is still a nice red colour? |
