hi there it is easy to replase the diff on the Trooper jack up the back end take wheels of undo bolts that hold the caliper on swing it out of the way take discs of disconect the hand brake mech including shoes undo to 10mm bolts at back of hub and pull hand brake cable out undo 4 17mm nuts at the back of the hub put container under hub unless you have drained axle already then pull out drive shaft complete with bearing holder *beep* plate or dust shield what ever you want to call it and put to one side do same for other side then get under neath make sure trooper is safe ,,,,,,,,use big screw driver between uj undo 4 14mm probshaft bolts and swing out of the way undo all 13mm bolts and nuts around diff housing ,,,,,,,,,,now go indoors have bowl of weatabix get back under troop and pull diff unit out if weatabix has worked you will be able to hold diff and guide it to floor it weatabix not worked watch your head diff is bloody heavy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,rebuild or change reverse is same as dissasemble but before you put the diff unit back in axle housing put bead of silicon sealer around edge of unit this helps stop oil leaks,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,if you are going to rebuild the diff your self on the pinion housing put a steel rule on it edge across the pinion flange get another rule or digital caliper and measure from top of nut to bottom of the ruler write this measurement down and when you put the nut back on you can tighten it down to the same place it was before you undid it as there is a crush spacer in the pinion housing and if you tighten to far you will put more load on the pinion bearing ,,,,if you dont tighten it down enough it will move about to much and cause premature wear on pinion bearing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,all this is of cause if you are using the original pinion bearings if you are replacing the pinion bearings this is all academic.
