There was a filter connected at the rear of the vehicle but they disconnected that.

With a 2 tank system using heated WVO there should not be any issues.

Starting on and switching back to diesel on shut down flushes the WVo out of the pump.

We have run WVO and have not noticed any problems after 20,000+ miles.

I suppose it depends what has been cooked in the oil and its water content, and animal fat content.
I still wouldnt feed my diesel with the stuff from the chippy  Laughing

Also the  2.8 and 3.1 are different engines, you are posting in a 3.1 thread and you run a 2.8  Rolling Eyes

Clean fuel is a must.
We burn peanut oil with zero water & animal fat used to cook French Fries only.
It is filtered down to 5 micron before it enters the fuel tank.

On occasion we have had what we call skank oil - nasty fry oil with chunks and sometimes emulsified water.
This goes through our Simple Centrifuge and comes out cleaner than the peanut oil we use.

Agreed that dirty fuel use can give poor results... again a good diesel flushing will clear out the sticky WVO residue with 2 tank systems.

If you want to pay the higher cost to refine to bio-diesel that's good too, but adding petrol (gasoline) to thin out the fuel will sometimes cause the exhaust gas temperatures to spike and damage a turbo or crack an exhaust manifold.
We have first hand experience with these failures.

Your reminding me of the topic is appreciated, but unnecessary!
I stated the engine type at the start of my post and we have a 3.1 here as well.
When it comes to veg the engine differences are very minor and the exact same principles apply.
Plumbing a heat exchange is identical on both engines and the suggested approach to the conversion is what a DIY guy makes it.
My suggestions are just as relevant with a 3.1 even though they are with a 2.8.

So what's your point to mention this is a 3.1 thread???
There was no high jack to discuss Mercedes diesels for example.
What expertise are you bringing to help those less experienced, but possibly more intelligent?
People with different approaches and different, or very very very similar engines can learn from one other.

I get my WVO from a mobile chippy, its heated so no water, and warm filtered so no big bits.
I then let it settle at least a week, pour out the nice oil and filter down to 1 micron and then put it in me tank.

No need to use T pieces for the FPHE, I just removed the hose from engine going to heater matrix, plumbed in new hose from engine to FPHE then to heater matrix.  I have digital temp gauges for fuel and water, within 10 mins my fuel is over 50C.
