how to get something in your signature.
you can put pics in or text,it's done from your profile settings. so you can either type in your message,or link it to an offline picture like i have. posting sig pics is exactly the same as posting a pic on the forum, there is another thread that covers that. any probs, ask away |

I know simon was suggesting on another thread that whilst pics in sigs are lovely they do eat bandwidth quite quickly and slow down a thread loading, especially for people who may still be on a dialup connection. You may want to temper this with a little caution. _________________ Phil

More x 4, Does the 100 x 80 pixels & 4kb requirement for Avitars apply to sig pics please? If not what are the limits if any?

Hi all ...
sig pix ....
well ... common sense prevails ...
It doesn't use our band-width (the amount of information that goes back & forth on our web server (computer)) unless the pictures are hosted (saved) on our server ... so if you host it on a free-server then it's their bandwidth, not ours, that you are using ... however, nothing in the computer world is ever simple!!!!
If your image is massive, then it will take a long time to download (get off the hosting server onto your screen) ... soooo ... the worse your connection, the longer it takes - Broadband munches straight through it ... dial-up struggles to download 1 line at a time!!!
Massive takes two forms ...
Firstly, pure bytes ... the amount of disk space that a picture takes ... you may hear phrases like 32K - 32Kb - 32 Kilobytes ... these are all the same ... roughly 32 million bytes (characters) of information. The larger the size, the longer the time to download.
Secondly, the dimensions ... usually measures in pixels - or dots on the screen ... generally defined in height x width ... or is it width x height Anyway - the more pixels tall and wide - the bigger the problem - too wide and you have to scroll left and right to read the post contents ... too tall (high) and you will end up with RSI scrolling down the page.
At the end of the day, please just use a bit of common sense ... not too large, not too high and not too wide
Remember ... more people are still on dial-up than are on broad-band
This has been a public service announcement
