Hi
bought a 1999 310d 5 cylinder with 145 on clock from a pal with suspected blown turbo for cheap recently, it ran fine before this problem.
It was puffing out plumes of blue smoke from the exhaust loads of oil in the own pipe, sent turbo away and had it rebuilt £370.00
built back up the otherday made sure the oil feed was primed by turning the engine over with the injectors cracked (changed the oil filter air filter and fuel filter.
started the engine and just the same plumes of oil expected this to clear but when i checked the dip stick it had lost quite a lot of oil refilled as put this down to the filter filling up but it is definetly drinking oil by the minute.
when i got the engine warm it did not sound very nice at all quite snarly with a few rattles.
So my thoughts are know that the turbo was not blown, i know people are going to say piston rings, but worn engines do use oil but this is drinking oil within 30 minutes it used half the dipstick.
i have read similar threads on here but not found an answer, i have in mind some sort of breathing problem or stuck open valves or the hydraulic tappets failing.
please help as garage not an option.
