Hi

i have a SWB 98 mk 3 trooper and im 6 ft tall, when i drive i feel like noddy in his car i feel as if my knees are up around my ears... not quite but i am lower than i would like and this is the first Veh i have had where the seat does not raise.

So what can i do can i replace it with a newer seat from another model, or after market seat if so from where, i have noted some ppl have Recaro seats, but i dont have a Recaro Bot   Shocked

im open to all advice also there is the cost option, and availability.

as my trooper is a toy i would not even be against just changing the drivers seat and leaving all else alone.

advice please !!

thanks

Mark

some of the seats come with 2 longitudinal silver spacer bars to lift them up. you may be able to just take these out.

I'm 6'3" and find my Monterey fine, I'm guessing the seats are different, mine are adjustable fore and aft with an arm rest too. Maybe try one of these. My Frontera on the other hand is another story, strange position that one!

Yup

this seat seams to be the basic model, 3 door veh,

Veh has done 100k so some give to be expected in the seat, but it only moves fore and aft as the navy call it with a catch to tip the back forward.

you can see switch blanks on the side of the seat where a higher spec modul would have electrical controls.

but this one does not lower or elevate which is quite annoying, and uncomfortable on long hauls.

so looking for options.

Mine is actually manual, I have 2 knobs to raise or lower the front or back respectively.

I know someone that has 2 front Paj seats that i'm sure are fully adjustable but 1 i'm not sure if you can make them fit(someone will know) and 2 they have Pajero stitched into them and 3 the distance between you., I do know he'll not want that much, See pics here

reupholster your current ones?

mine were sinking, so i bought some toyota chaser seats and pulled the upholstery off those, and put them on my jackaroo (trooper) frames

you need to be a bit cluey with the modification process though to make the foam work

I drive a 98 lwb UK spec trooper and find the seats are very comfortable and I'm 6'3" tall, again maybe the seats are different as mines a citation so maybe worth looking for a set from a higher spec model and swap them in.  If you've come from driving a normal car though it will feel a little odd as its a more upright driving postion.

cheers for your advice guys, you have all been a great help.

dont mind what the seats come from tbh so pajero would not be out.

not sure im handy enough to recover too and not sure if that would solve my prob as need about 2 inch lift to feel comfortable.

my truck is a Duty which is obv the basic modul and seat has basic adjustment,

i will look at local breakers to see if there are any citations if not then will consiter farther away,

have just purchased some wheel from adz1973 and had a look at his recaros which i was surprised were quite comfortable and not the bucket seats i was expecting so thats an option.

I think for pure ease, as you say a better equipped model might give you what you are looking for.

My drivers seat felt a bit low and a bit saggy when I got the motor, took the seat out, pulled the spings out, cut an inch of the springs, put them back in and it made a massive difference to height and comfort, quick and easy, might be worth a look.
