Some thieving get butchered my coax and stole my new mag mount and whip so ive bought another and a goochie little quick release so i can remove it when i like , im playing around with ideas of mounting at the rear of the spare wheel carrier , has any one done this succesfylly if so any pics and lastly will i need to raise it up on the bracket to maybe the top of the backside of spare wheel so not to affect reception to much . i really wanted it off the spoiler type bit on the back of the roof but not enogh room under neath unless any of you guys have done it and can shine some light on getting the best results cheers  Very Happy

I did manage to replace my stereo aerial with one mounted on the roof spoiler with no problem (after I damaged the normal aerial on a tree) , do a search for Nevada MTS-042 on the web and you will see the sort of thing I used, I mounted this on the front edge of the spoiler, I then opened the 1/4 door on the back and saw that there is a hole where the rear door cables runs on lefthand drive cars that is blanked off with a plastic patch which I could then use to feed the cable though into the car and then ran it through to the front.

I'm not sure how big an antenna I would want to attach to the spoiler as it is not really that strong, I was just using one of the bee sting fm aerials which are about 12 inches long so it was not a problem, I'm not sure I'd want to put a full length CB / amateur antenna on it. The boot clamp will take it but I'm not sure the spoiler will

Regards

John

this is my set up

rear door bracket (available from any cb shop
quick release adaptor fitted to aerial ..... stops anyone nicking it ... this is the same sort of adaptor i've got
http://cgi.eebuygum.co.uk/SILVER-3-8-QUICK-RELEASE-DELUXE-SHORT-SHANK-CB-TAXI-/270655350289?pt=UK_ConsumerElectronics_SpecialistRadioEquipment_SM&hash=item3f0450e611

after having a roof mounted aerial i find the rear door mount miles better as the spring is now not able to get tangled in branches ect.. i lost a brand new mag mount and aerial in tree's befor and the quick release adaptor is a great idea
only takes seconds to attach or take of aerial whilst still leaving bracket and wiring in place

I had mine mounted to the spare wheel on my MK1, I just used a simple length of 3mm steel drilled and bent into an L and bolted it on using one of the sprae wheel bolts.  I also had a quick release bracket.  I understand though you don't get such a good ground plane with it at one end so it tends to broadcast/receive much stronger behind than in front of the vehicle.  I'm going to fit my CB into the Blazer but I might well have the antenna on the roof and just build a bracket for it on the light bar I'm building.

Well in my impatience of not getting it sorted i took a chance and drilled through the double skin of the airflow spoiler and mounted it on the rear passenger side , i was worried that the spoiler wouldnt take it with all the flopping round when youre driving but to my delight its worked a treat thankfully , i would of been gutted if it hadnt tho  Very Happy

spoiler is very sturdy it will take an aerial no prob.....i have a propper spoiler bolted to mine  Wink
might still be worth getting a quick release adaptor if you'd prefer to take it off when not in use
