In short,
There's a proposal to monitor and repair a number of lanes (which reading the article aren't yet closed).
These include.
Stanage
Chaplegate
Pindale
Banford steps (the clough)
All the lanes around Shatton moor
Chinley Steps
and a large number of others.
or has been discussed on a number of 4x4 forums, they are planning on closing the lanes on all nation parks. The lakes have been on about this for an age now... _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

Maybe its time to get clubs together and ask if its possible for volunteers to perform repairs
We all know that T.R.O's (traffic regulation orders ) are Latin for permanantly closed to all motor vehicles _________________ |

Went for a walk over houndkirk last night - still open, no TRO, and same with Stanage...
I'll keep an eye and if anything changes or anyone hears and different I'll have a pop out and check. _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

The peak rangers are the people to speak to, they have a drop in for volenteers at a couple of locations every weekend. When they did stanage, it looks like they used machinery (the quantity of crushed stone which was dropped) so I don't know about the insurance issues with regards to volenteers in those situations _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

A message from GLASS (copied from POCUK)
Quote: |
News from Derbyshire and the Peak District!
Derbyshire is a popular destination for green laners, and with the GLASS Derbyshire Weekend coming up soon (for details see below) the following information is worth circulating to your members:
SENSITIVE ROUTES
Stanage Edge (Bamford - The Long Causeway SK2284-4a)
This route is one of a number of BOATs and UCRs which are officially listed by Derbyshire County Council as "Sensitive".
Please be very mindful of the sensitivity of this route when organising green laning trips.
During recent repairs at the lower end there has been a voluntary restraint agreement with local groups not to use the route. As the most urgent repairs have now been done there is no longer a complete restriction on 4x4s using the Long Causeway, but please be careful not to cause undue wear and tear to the surface, which varies widely from sand to rock steps with loose boulders. Standard 4x4s may need a "spotter" in the narrow rocky section to avoid potential problems. Avoid bad weather - there are steep drops in places and the rocks can get slippery.
Please use this byway/UCR only in the downhill direction (starting from Redmires Reservoir end). This has been agreed as part of a voluntary code with the Stanage Forum and all users are asked to respect this. Going up the hill causes more wear to the surface, and more noise.
Lastly, please advise your members to adhere closely to the GLASS drivers code of conduct, and not exceed group sizes of 4 vehicles on any route.
The most "Sensitive" routes are listed on the PDNPA web site at this link:
http://www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/index/looking-after/vehicles/vehicles-routes.htm
It is well worth checking out this web page before setting out to the Peak District, to get the latest advisory information.
Note that the route from Tenterhill to Leycote (Washgates - SK0467-3a) is currently closed by a temporary TRO. Please do not attempt to drive it.
ILLEGAL OFF-ROADING
A number of routes are being endangered by 4x4s and trail bikes going "off-road" onto the moor land or private land adjacent to green lanes. In some cases (e.g. Houndkirk Road) this has become a major problem with ad hoc off-road courses being carved out in the moorland near the road.
GLASS take any illegal motor vehicle activity very seriously. Where it is taking place we encourage the police and highway authorities to stop it and - if necessary - take action against the people responsible. We need your help to do this.
You should ring the police on 0845 123 3333 if you see motorists:
. Going 'off-road' on to open moorland
. Driving or riding on footpaths or bridleways
. In a vehicle that is not road legal.
GLASS DERBYSHIRE WEEKEND
Date: 24th-26th October 2008
Venue: Hurt Arms as usual, Ambergate. At the junction of the A6 and A610 in Derbyshire.
The fireworks are on Saturday evening in Matlock and we usually board the train at Ambergate into Matlock.
Please book in with Simon Wilson (North Notts Rep) as soon as possible. Take a look at the write up for last years and you'll see that it's well worth coming along with either your tent or caravan. |

I spoke to the ROW officer last week before our trip to Derbyshire, he told me there is still some remedial work being carried out on Chapelgate that should have been finished by the end of May, but is three months behind schedule, so is likely to be finished by the end of August, the 18 month TRO will run concurrently from the end of the remedial work, so Chapelgate is off limits for at least 20 months now.
Roych Clough is downhill only and is marked as such, the markings are for a voluntary one way, but the ROW said it was an agreed voluntary one way, so going the wrong way could end up falling foul of Operation Blackbrook and section 59 of the RTA.
There are no signs on the gates at either side of Chapelgate stating that it is closed to vehicles though, which there should be.
Still had a very good day out though. |
