Hi everyone, need some help please Sad
work I have done on trooper over last few months  new head, gaskets etc with the help of Eithan & Gribble  Very Happy amongst others
for a couple of days after the temp still kept fluctuating but then settled -no probs
I have replaced the water pump with new one ,due to leak in old one
then the starter motor packed up so replaced that Rolling Eyes
during which a water pipe that was in the way was disconnected, once the motor has been put back on the temp has started to rise again particularly on hills and long run, the inside of the car smells hot also --could this be an air lock?? or something sinister
also on page 1661 of the online manual in the picture thermostat ,-- next to number 1 is the screw shown a special screw (having a small hole/groove) or just a normal screw with torque setting
I hope all this makes sense  Question

Your Water-Pump developed a leak - that might be because 'gunk' in the coolant-system was causing excessive pressure build-up. It fits with your mention of a return of the overheating problem when a pipe had to be removed and replaced...........maybe dislodging some filth which has again partially blocked some waterway....?

[1]    You've replaced the Thermostat and Water-Pump, so I'd start with a careful flush of the whole system - to be sure that clean coolant is circulating everywhere it should.

[2]    Consider checking on the FAN - it may NOT be cooling the Radiator effectively. When the engine is ticking-over but still cold, it should be easy to stop the Fan with a twist of cardboard [don't put your fingers near the moving Fan!!]. When the engine has run up to 'normal' operating temperature, the fan should SHRED any piece of cardboard you put in its way! That's how a Viscous-Fluid Fan-Clutch is supposed to work - it 'connects' the Fan solidly to the Water-Pump shaft when the HOT engine needs to be cooled. If it's possible to stop the fan with the piece of cardboard when  the radiator is up to normal temperature - then the Fan-Clutch is NOT WORKING properly.

Don't worry if that's the case - it can be fixed easily and cheaply. The Clutch can be removed from the car in 10 minutes and then stripped and the old fluid drained-out [overnight - it's awfully gooey!]. Replacement fluid can be purchased on eebuygum [http://www.eebuygum.ie/itm/CORE-RC-Quality-Silicone-Shock-Oil-100-2000cSt-10-120wt-60ml-Bottle-/230892145987?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&var=&hash=item35c23e8d43] very cheaply - as it's used  for differential-drivesin Radio-Controlled cars! My research [through other 4x4 sites] indicates that 30 000 cSt oil is ideal for replacement in the Aisin fan-clutches fitted to Troopers. Reassembly is easy and quick too!

Good Luck!
