Sorry for an OLD problem - but HOW does one drain the 4WD actuator on the front axle? The PDF manual says use the 'bottom' bolt - but WHICH ONE? I removed both of the 17mm bolts on the Diff-side and the bottom pair of 12mm for the Actuator itself - but no oil came out!

The refill-plug [at top rear] was hard to access - but I managed to remove it and topped-up with 80W-90 oil - naturally, I got half of it on my face!

Can someone, please, put up some pictures marked with the  drain and fill holes for ALL the lubrication-points on the Trooper. I'm sure many people would benefit!

Not had a look at mine as I just bought it. However how much oil did you get in it? If the axle seals were *beep* in might not have had any oil in it.

Sometimes the gasket sealer can block the drain holes ,poke a screwdriver up them .

I normally take out the level bung and put my little finger in to see how far down the oil is and what condition it's in ,if Finger and the oil don't meet it's a drain and refill job .

It holds about 300cc or up to the LEVEL bung as you would probably post Mr B   Smile

The on line manual does show all 7 drain and fill points on 3.1 and 3.0 troopers and there are several posts showing this too .

Thanks Rob & Gribble. The bits I could touch with my pinky were, indeed, oily - but no liquid surface. I think you're right about sealant blocking the 'correct' hole - but WHICH ONE is worth a poke with a screw-driver - the 12mm or the 17mm bolt-hole? I failed to find any info[except oil QUANTITY] in the Manual and none on hole-location on the Forum.

As I said, I topped-up [probably less than 300ml.....?] - so it'll 'do' for now!

Thanks again!

Thanks Kennymac - page 4A1-3 is, indeed, as you say, all about the DIFFERENTIAL - which I drained and re-filled without a problem [apart from an excessively-tight re-fill plug!!].

My query was about the draining of the Shift-Switch-Connector which, like the Differential, is supposed to drain from one of the 'normal' mounting-bolts and re-fill though a 'specialised' re-fill plug. As Gribble has suggested, some sealant must have prevented the Bolt-Hole from releasing the old oil  - so, as I was wet, cold and filthy by then - I just topped-up through the Re-Fill-Plug.
