Good Morning, we have a Isuzu Trooper Pick up 3.1 Import 2001
It is driving us mad! My husband is handy mechanically but he is stumped with this. The problem is that it is poor at starting, which we do think is the heater plugs are getting tired, but it also has low revs at idle and doesn't get any better when warm. When we are driving at average speed it seems ok, until you slow down for a junction or traffic lights etc then it starts to stall, you have to blip the throttle to keep it running. If we park up at the shops then go back to it after 10-15 mins or less, it still takes ages to start.
Hubby has cleaned the EGR valves and even tried blanking them off, still no different. Put all new filters on too. He did notice that the primer didn't seem to work when pressed after he changed the fuel filter.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Also do you know if we can test for fault codes ourselves, pedal test doesn't seem to work on our model. If so how do we do it.
Thanks in advance |

Have a look at the diesel tank and fuel lines as these are a common fault as they corrode where the pipes go in to the top of the tank, allowing air in and the fuel to run back/out. If this is the problem you will see a wetness around the top of the tank - not easy to see but you'll also be able to smell it. _________________ If all else fails just nod, smile and say "Yes Dear"

Hi, it ended up being tiny holes in pipes at the top of the fuel tank. So air was getting in. Hubby patched them up with 'liquid metal'. Seems to of cured it. |
