Hi all, I am new to this forum as from today.I have just bought an Isuzu trooper 2001, it has the 4jx1td 14 engine, 3.litre. LWB. I had the starter motor pack up on me so after removing it which is very difficult. Had it looked at and had a new solenoid fitted.I have taken off the starter motor every day and put it back on again for a week now.So im fuming a bit. Each time the motor is bench tested it is fine.Today I actually got the car started, but just about to go for a spin and the solenoid packed up again!. The solenoid just spins like mad but dosent seem to engage the motor.I am not a mechanic but do know a fair bit. Has any one out there got any suggestions please.I live and work in Bulgaria and at the moment cant go to work with no car. Rolling Eyes

the clutch section goes in the end of the starter, don't know if you can replace this bit though most people just put another starter on

thankyou for that info, I will get someone to look at that. I may even look my self, as I now know my starter motor better than my wife. Laughing I suspect that the solenoid is a cheap Chinese version and could be faulty? Is there anywhere I can buy an original Isuzu solenoid? Any info is very appreciated.

ok thank you. I will remove the starter motor tomorrow and have a look at the clutch section. I have an old opel Monterey in the garden, perhaps I can swap the clutch section from the old motor. I know that the bendix is the same size so here's hoping. Thank you

Ok, so I am now totally confused! I got the car towed to the auto electrician whow fitted a new solenoid for me. He had a look at the newly fitted starter motor . He said every thing looks ok, then he reconnected the neg leads on the batteries and the car started up? Maybe he had a magic touch?. The car is now fine, but I am holding my breath every time I turn the key to start it.It has sat in my drive for 10 days and now it works. Any ideas??
