hey all, new to forum. my dads 01 trooper has given up due to overheating and mechanic told him that a second hand engine is the way to go. he suggested the older model 3.1 as an option. the thing is that I have an old Daihatsu fourtrak with a bril 2.8 turbo engine that the rust has taken over. mechanic never seen such a conversion so I was wondering would it be possible. has anybody done it before ?  Question

ok thanks for reply. yeah mechanic said he never seen it done so just wondered if it were possible as the fourtrak seems unstoppable . he had suggested both 3.1 and 2.8 older trooper engines as options but said that the back engine plates need to be switched across and all in all it will take four days labour and wants a complete and running doner or he would not be interested in doing the change and no chance that he will do the fourtrack . so which is best the 2.8 or 3.1  Question

yeah to be fair I know of a 3.0 that never give any trouble at all . went to see a guy today that used to have a trooper that he converted to 3.1, said it was a great job but harder on fuel than 3.0,  so if I could get a good running 3.0 then i:d consider

I think the main issue with the 3.0 is that people are scared of it. Armed with a Tech 2 and a good knowledge base (the forum) you should be fine.
