Hi,

I have a 3.1 trooper and ever since I bought it the passenger footwell has been soaking.  I felt underneath the heater matrix and it was wet.  So I've spent the last 2 days removing the heater matrix only to find it is in perfect condition with no leaks.  The heater box was dry inside.  I have air con but never used it.

The trooper lost 3litres of water and overheated before I removed the matrix.  I topped it back up and ran it for 15mins up to temp.  There was no visible external leaks and there was pressure in the system.

I'm completely stumped and would be very grateful for any suggestions.

Just to add I removed the carpet and dried it thou roughly before removing the matrix.  The carpet was soaked again within 2days.  I had the trooper running whilst sticking my *beep* out the passenger door and looking for leaks in the footwell but nothing.  Help!!

Hello probably the waters getting in under the panel the wiper arms come out of there are so drain tubes in there that can get blocked up .

"The trooper lost 3litres of water and overheated before I removed the matrix."           That's the key factor - if the coolant-system is LOSING water - AND your floor is wet - THEN it must be coming from the pipes which lead to the matrix.

Let's assume you're entirely correct to say the matrix itself is OK. It's got a feed and a return-line coming in through the bulkhead - these are joined by rubber hoses to pipes coming from the Engine-Block. SOME PART of the system is leaking and water just finds its way DOWN to your footwell. Trace it back and you'll probably find a tired old rubber-hose that's 'perished', or a broken clip!!

New on this forum but had the same problem for over a year. Finally discovered that the top seal of my windscreen had got rust spots behind it and a hole in the screen arm was causing water to get into the passenger side footwell! Had it repaired (properly) and now it is dry as a bone!
