Hi we have a 1999 3.0 litre trooper that's developed some starting issues.
Sometimes when you go to start it all you hear is single click, I think this might be a relay, it is coming from under the car. Could it be the starter on the way out?
I replaced the battery and checked it and the alternator are working correctly.
Is the starter located on the passenger side of the car?

Its possible its the starter solenoid playing up but there is another relay just back from the engine bay fuse box ,there are two in a separate box and the rear one works the solenoid so do try swapping it with the one beside it which does the glow plugs which probably won't be needed in this weather .

Hi,  thanks for the advice. Have swopt relays round so will see how it goes. The car does still sound a bit weak when starting though. Have found where the starter motor is and it looks tricky to get out, any advice on that?

an extra pair of hands to hold the 17mm spanner helps and some say pulling the dipstick tube aids available space. either way ensure all the vacuum pipes are back on afterwards or brakes will suffer.
