Hi All

i'm new to this forum and joined as i'm considering buying a trooper... every ounce of my body says I shouldn't but I'm a curious person and don't want to let fear stories ruin what might be an otherwise good experience....

I've read that the 4JX1 engines are very good engines when running and a nightmare when they go wrong. I've read they go wrong because of the wrong oil... I've also read that 5w30 is the right engine oil for them. My question is this... if these engines need thin oils... would a 0w30 be better for cold starts than the 5w30 that is recommended?

Thanks all,
Archerman

You need 5W30 fully synthetic to ensure the common rail gets enough oil at the right pressure. Any less (if the oil is too thin for example) then it won't start or run properly.

you can use 0/30 in the winter but it makes them rattly when running, 5/30 is fine for this country for winter starting
