|

Hi All,
Help with this one would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 2000 trooper 3.0 Duty 150,000 miles. Usually runs really well but it has developed a starting problem.
Occasionally It has a long turn of the key (around 10 seconds). After it starts I get black smoke form the exhaust for a short while followed by a lumpy tickover. recently it cut out at a set of lights but started again after 10 - 15 seconds. then it runs really smoothly again.
I called Isuzu and they said a diagnostic might not help because there aren't a lot of sensors on these old trucks but the guy was helpful and said that there might be air getting in somewhere.
Really need the car to be reliable over the next few weeks as the missus is expecting and i'm worried that it might not start at exactly the wrong moment if you get my drift.
Any ideas folks?

they on about the 3.1 then as the 3.0 does have a few sensors that cause issues, most common is the orps that can cause all the symptoms you have got, where abouts in the uk are you? |

Thanks for the reply Eithan,
Yeah i've red a bit on the ORPS and have ordered one from Milner. Just need someone to fit it now. I had a look at how to do it but most people recommend using a tech 2 after the sensor has been fitted so I don't want to try and sort it myself.
I'm in South Staffordshire near Wolverhampton.
Cheers

we can fit it for you if you want to travel down to us and calibrate it on tech2, it doesn't take long and we do it while you wait |

Just a quick update on the starting problem. Its been a couple of weeks now and I have had no issues with starting, Result!
Since the ORPS was changed, starting, tickover, throttle response and overall drivability have really improved so thanks again for the help in diagnosing and fixing the problem.
Well worth the trip to Oxford. Recommend Old Mill Motors if anyone is having trouble with their Trooper.
Cheers
