Deleted as realised this DIY assists theft. PM me if you want to know how to remove the bars.

Soooo anyways I had a bash at fitting roof rails from the Monterey to my Trooper.
Every Trooper has the holes for roof rails. If unused the factory tape them over before painting. If you look carefully underneath the gutter trim you can see the tape.
The tape's thick, tough and doesn't easily peel away - it just breaks into tiny bits. So rather than spend hours picking at it I just felt for the soft spots where the two holes were and poked my knife through, then trimmed away until they were nicely opened up. I put generous splodges of silicone sealant on the top and bottom of each bolt spacer, as well as inside. Hoepfully that'll stop any water ingress.
Installation is the reverse of removal - mostly. I learned the hard way not to tight the feet up before fitting the 5mm hex bolts that hold the end feet onto the bars, otherwise the feet are pulled slightly away from the bars and the little bolt hole doesn't line up. So - fit the feet to the bars and refit/tighten the small 5mm hex bolt at each end that locks the feet onto the bar. THEN fit the bars onto the base plates, hook onto the two end plates and tighten the internal end bolts and the 3mm grub screw that secures the centre bolt.
