Hi all my 2006 2.5 rodeo seems sluggish.

i understand that it's sluggish when cold but once warm it doesn't really seem any better.

i pick up a ifor williams plant trailer about 600kgs empty and it was like i had about 2ton being pulled behind it!!

it puts out black smoke when you accelarate (the harder you push the more it smokes)

Any one had this sort of issue before or could shed any light on this?

Many Thanks Ben

black smoke is excess fuel or lack of air so check the turbo is working ok and the waste gate isn't seized open and also check the egr valve isn't stuck open

I find the simple things are easier to check, as mentioned, lack of air. Check your air filter. I had a different car a few years ago, garage serviced kept going into limp home mode. Garage had stuck a screwdriver through air filter instead of changing it, which then soon clogged up again.
