The question is does my trooper have a imobiliser
i ask this as i went to have a spare key cut and the guy said it has a chip in it
Now my trooper has NONE of the following c/l /ew/abs/c/c/ only 1 air bag it is so basic it is like going back to 60s but i have owned cars from the 60s and 70s with more spec .anyway i have checked behind the dash and the wires that would go to the flashing light on the dash are factory covered in that grey sponge and tape .So i would have thought if it had an alarm or imobiliser i would have some form of light flashing at least .
It is a 1999 reg and is on the v5 as a trooper DE if that means anything. thanks |

they have a built in transponder which if yours needs coding then when you put it in the ignition it will flash the check engine light at you quickly, this is because the key isn't coded so it won't start. normally the key cutting place can clone your original and use the info to program the new key, |

The following italicised type is what I posted in another thread. It's what we found out going through the pain.
My input is the transponder element in the key programmable or is it the coloumn transponder element that gets coded.
Just been through the pain of changing key barrels and spider (long story) and from what I've seen chances are you won't have a key fob unless same scenario as already posted.
What I could see is the earlier 3.1 MkII didn't have a transponder in the key or column. We had issues with a MkIII 3.1 P reg 1996 which did have a transponder. Although this vehicle had central locking, the transponder had no interferance with that function. Purely activated by the key turning in the door lock. The transponder effectively only activates the fuel cut off switch on the pump. Due to damaged sustained, we changed the spider assembly on the column. The replacement came from a MkIV 3.0 which matched exactly to the MkIII. The WRONG MkII assembly from a NON transponder earlier vehicle was completely different. The transponder is match of three items, (a) Fuel cut off switch on the pump, (b) transponder in the column and (c) transponder element in the key. The key part can be removed from the original key and implanted into the new or replacement key if applicable. |
