Hell that would be good. I'll keep going at it and if (more than likely 'when') I admit defeat I'll send you a PM to see if the offer is still open. My car and the Trooper both went u/s on the same day 2 days ago so you can imagine things are a bit tense. |

Can you buy boot on the joint in the end of the pitman arm or if I damage it is it a whole new relay centre rod? |

You can buy generic boots .. whether one specifically for that joint or not I don't know. _________________ 1990 Isuzu Bighorn LWB Mk.I 2.8TD Manual Lotus Edition

After a lot of persuasion the steering shaft came off then it was a case of "don't force it, use a bigger hammer" and the joint popped out of the drop arm. Fan and cowlings off, o/s battery out, harness released from clips and with a sheet of cardboard to protect the rad fins the pump just squeezed up and out the top. Second hand one in and all connected up and road tested at 2300hrs.
Just out of interest do you know if the airbag has wires or slip ring? I made sure I did not turn steering wheel away from its original center point just in case it has wires. |

I use a lump hammer .. and a sledge for lower suspension arm ball joints
Well done.
Pretty sure its a slip ring. _________________ 1990 Isuzu Bighorn LWB Mk.I 2.8TD Manual Lotus Edition

I started with a lump hammer but because I was working on my back on a shingle drive I couldn't get the swing I wanted so swapped to a large ball pane and Boom!
Thanks for your help. |

Yup .. it should slide up towards the bulkhead. There is a join halfway along. I am moving that way in the next couple of weekends, but will be about Sunday. If you are stuck I can pop over and lend a hand. |
Only just seen this post of yours. Are you near to Norwich? |

Well, 15 months on and that 2nd hand steering box is weeping. If I can get the pitman arm off the old box is the seal easy to replace? Is it a case of just popping it out and replacing or is it more involved? |
