Came on when returning home from Old Mill Motors.

I haven't got/cannot see any airbag wiring under the seats. (No airbags in seat sides)
Have checked the wires and plugs in the steering wheel airbag and they seem OK.

Could it be the wiring to seat pre-tensioners that cause this light to come on ?

It occasionally goes off but comes back within a mile or two  -  no rhyme or reason. [Classic intermittent electrical symptoms?]

Try looking to see whether they are tucked under the carpet under the seat, the plugs are yellow and usually just need breaking and remaking.

it will record a fault code which your tech2 can read but most likely one of the pretensioners

Thanks eithan.

I will find the Tech2 and have a look.

It might be a silly question BUT - I know mine has pretensioners but did all Troopers (in 2002) actually have "airbag wiring" under the seat as implied by other owners or are we talking about the same thing ?

I have found plugs under seat and foam moulding near the front outer corners of each seat. Don't remember seeing a "yellow one" ?

Understand that pretensioner wiring 'issues' will put on the "Airbag light".

There are stainless steel(?) clips on the pretensioner connectors so I will remove and check. [After disconnecting the battery and waiting ...]

Steering wheel airbag wires are OK on visual inspection.
[Must look at wiring diagram in multi-page manual to see where I can check for continuity.]

all 3.0l troopers have the pretensioner wiring which is part of the airbag system and it's the plugs that everyone goes on about, probably tucked under the carpet

Progress.

Tech2 says that the passenger seat  pretensioner is at fault.

Will check tomorrow in daylight.

At last !

Found THE yellow plug hidden under the passenger seat carpet [area was dry and clean].

BUT even after fiddling it has not altered the airbag light so will next check other connections to the harness and the pretensioner itself.

the wires break where the stainless clip is on the actual pretensioner itself

eithan - you were correct AGAIN ....

Sure enough the blue wire had broken just where it enters the red plug on the pretensioner - as had the outer black insulation ...
and the brown wire was soon to break.

Undid the yellow plug, [and removed the brown plastic 'fir-tree' support on the seat frame] took the wire into the garage and cut off  very close to the end.
Re-soldered with a small iron, brown wire to central pin, blue wire to one end of the tiny copper winding.
If you are doing this and your soldering is not good - take it to a mate !

Plugged it all back together and no airbag light.  Smile

Mind you - as the wire has to flex every single time you move the passenger seat forward on a two-door - it might not last long !

Note to self :-

Look for a very flexible replacement pair of wires. I can sort the outer insulation.
