Replaced the ORPS 4.5 years ago because the engine did not start very well and sometimes ran roughly for a period of a few weeks before finally it would not start at all. Change the ORPS and all fine for 4.5 years until the other day when it failed to start. There were no starting or running problems like last time in the weeks before although I did have to replace both batteries a couple of weeks ago and have a new rectifier fitted to the alternator a week later - I am assuming these problems have no connection at all with my latest non starting problem?

I cut the white wire (J2-7 on center plug on ECM) this morning and it started immediately. Can i say this definitely an ORPS failure? If so is 4.5 years a normal life expectancy for a genuine ORPS or am I just unlucky?

Mine has done 21k miles and been in 5 years.

Do lots of short trips make any difference - is it start cycle related? Perhaps they put a chip somewhere in there that records starts. That's me being cynical about today microchip/smart technology, they like to control things.  Shocked
