As I've probably said elsewhere - I've bought and used a 'clone' Tech2.
I'm no expert but willing to read codes.

Hi all, just got my clone today, awaiting injector seals, gasket kit ect... to fit everything back and plug this one in. I thought a pic would be great to visualize the device.
It's quite impressive as it doesn't look "that big" before you actually see it and hold it in your hands, now on my old fake marble table lol

Just remember (if it is like my clone) that the VIN section on the software is set up for North America only.
I found out the hard way when 'it' decided my 4JX1 Trooper was petrol-powered !!!
The Chinese supplier was unable to provide European spec VIN software.
Otherwise seems generally good. _________________ 02 3.0 Trooper

I have no issue with my clone. It matches a uk tech2 identically. _________________ '98S reg Irish Trooper 3.0DT Citation (LWB 7seat)

Oh have no idea for now, haven't been able to use it yet, hope it'll work fine. Still waiting for some parts to come.
So is there any special instructions I should be aware of when it comes to plugging it into my 4JX1 then? Cheers |

Nothing other than to say - on my clone the DC/DC converter caused issues so I followed the advice from another forum and changed the converter to a much more reliable one. _________________ 02 3.0 Trooper

yes, the DC converter often goes in genuine ( and clone ) Tech 2's, it is a pretty common fault
we had to buy a REC10 for our genuine Tech 2 and it did the trick
Recom REC10 10W Isolated DC-DC Converter Through Hole, Vin 9 → 18 V dc, Vout 5V dc
https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/isolated-dc-dc-converters/7773443/
you need someone who is good at soldering, the cost of the part is £28.76 ex vat
beware scam artists on eebuygum charging £70 or £80 for the same thing ! _________________ White Trooper SWB 2003 (commercial) |

I must see what I used.
It was a LOT less money than that RS item - and it works. _________________ 02 3.0 Trooper

even better if there is a cheaper source for the DC to DC converter, we were in a hurry to get it done, and RS popped up first on the radar _________________ White Trooper SWB 2003 (commercial) |

Totally understand.
Now I'm sure I actually took my instructions from saabcentral.com >>(https://www.saabcentral.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-567490.html) rather than the poor translation on the earlier link I posted.
I used an LM2596S from eebuygum. My 'electronics mate' did the soldering and supplied a necessary resistor.
The units can be incredibly cheap - currently as low as £1.95 inc post. [I paid £1.66 for mine a year ago]
Almost certainly Chinese but no evidence of 'cheese' yet on mine! _________________ 02 3.0 Trooper
