well i was going to waxoil the car today , but on closer inspection i,m not sure what to use.
will waxoil actually kill rust or is it just a barrier to stop moisture
in places its pretty bad and i,m wondering if i spray it on , will it just keep rotting from the inside.
is there something better to use ??
which would be better between the clear waxoil and the black sealant type waxoil
thanks chaps _________________ 93 SWB 3.1Turbo Duty intercooler

Waxoyl claims to stop rust - I use it because I like the fact that it's flexible and closes up again. I think it probably does stop rust developing further by exclusion of oxygen, water and any catalyst (such as salt) but I make sure that I have 'steamed' it clean first (my pressure washer accepts water up to 40 degrees).
As for the clear vs black - it depends on your tastes. I like the black because it shows where it has covered, but equally if im working in visible areas like sills, then clear is good because its not so noticeable.
I do however sandblast and/or wire brush badly corroded surfaces first to remove air pockets and improve adhesion.
Hope that helps. _________________ '98S reg Irish Trooper 3.0DT Citation (LWB 7seat)

ok cheers - i,ve bought some of the black waxoil in spray and in the tin to brush on as well
just looking on amazon and i see you can get large tins of rust convertor too , might be worth a spray over if i put it into a hand held sprayer
cheers _________________ 93 SWB 3.1Turbo Duty intercooler

Used this stuff a few times now and it's great. Not the cheapest but does the job. _________________ landcruiser 80 series 4.5, 35's/33's for road, 2inch lift, discreet winch, sliders/armour, factory lockers, stainless side exit +++++ |

Hi, just read your post on waxoil,
I’m looking at doing my trooper at Easter, how did you get on with the waxoil.
How economical is it to apply? _________________ Isuzu Trooper 3.0D SWB Citation 2000 (W)

£15 worth of Waco yo will do pretty much all your truck undersides.
Prep is everything. Prep takes days to do properly. _________________ '98S reg Irish Trooper 3.0DT Citation (LWB 7seat)

Thanks for the reply, days of prep sounds worrying.
I’m looking at replacing the rear springs, shocks and exhaust pipe from the cat back.
Hope that makes it a bit easier..
I’m thinking jet wash, then Very gentle wire brush. _________________ Isuzu Trooper 3.0D SWB Citation 2000 (W)

Pressure washing is fine, but you need a good long dry period once the salt and mud has gone to make sure you don’t trap the water in.
On axles, chassis etc hard wire brushing. Even brake pipes need to be properly clean. _________________ '98S reg Irish Trooper 3.0DT Citation (LWB 7seat)
