Hi,
Reading this spurred me on to replace mine today forum was a great help everything went well, I'm thinking the spring that sits across the 2 dowels initially sets the proper tension on belt there after does nothing once tensioner is tightened as has been mentioned before, other vehicle manufacturers cam belt tensioners provide a constant pressure on belt to allow for belt stretching (for example toyota landcruisers have hydraulic tensioners) in view of this would there be any benefit in doing a retension maybe 30000 miles.
Cheers Drew
