Hi, I have a 3.5 petrol Auto which i have used for towing a cattle trailer . we had Auto box problems about 30,000 miles ago and had the box re built by a reputable auto repair firm . They also fitted an external oil cooler .The box started playing up a few months ago so firstly changed oil and filter , but then on last run to market auto oil over heat light came on and it was slipping in third . Let it cool and got to market in second. On the way back empty , no warning light , but lost drive in all but low and had to be towed .Smoke was rising into cabin from around gearlever.
Obviously something has burned out, clutch pack , torque converter..Now on reading on internet , forums e.t.c a discover the auto box is regarded as pretty *beep* and was designed for light work, not heavy ish towing , so another re build does not seem worth it.
So to get to the point . Is it possible to put a 3.1 engine and gearbox into a 2004 model lwb trooper and who would do it? I have an engine and gearbox in an old Bighorn but do not know if it is feasible or sensible thing to do . The chassis on the 3.5 is pretty good regarding corrosion e.t.c . |

Thanks for the replies , i will contact Dan at Independent Isuzu. Bit of a long shot i guess.
Why did Isuzu put a light duty auto box in at that time? I have had two 3.1 Diesel Auto,s which have been fine towing even without an external cooler. |
