Had 4 new tyres fitted to steel rims for a horse trailer. The fitters did not balance the wheels. When I queried it they said it is not necessary. Is this correct?

I would say that is correct. I have never had any balanced on our horse trailer. Years ago they only balanced new tyres for the car if they were going on the front wheels. You don't notice unbalanced wheels on the back. (unless they are way, way out)
I doubt that with the weight of the trailer you would feel any unbalance, no chance with the horse in.
Unless of course, any one begs to differ

Thanks Malcolm,

I did not think I would feel anything in the towing vehicle but was wondering if any 'out of balance' would do any damage to the bearings/suspension in the long term.
