Hi All
In the Trooper handbook it gives a warning that when charging the batteries on no account should you connect the earth lead of the charger direct to the battery. but to an earthed point elsewhere at least 450 from the battery!
WHY, and what damage might ensue?
Ive come across this before, but usually advisory, never with such compulsion.
Waiting to be enlightened

The positive lead should always be connected first (because if the positive clamp inadvertantly touches anything other than the positive terminal of the battery through careless handling, then no harm is done). When the earth lead is then connected, sparks may occur as the connection is made. If the battery has been gassing, a spark at the battery itself may well cause an explosion. So connect the earth clamp well away from the battery. |
