Right then are there any of you that tow alot with a auto that have fitted a auto box cooler. As i tow most weekends with my 3.2 petrol monty and a 2.5 ton trailer on the back, so what are the pros and cons and what size would i be looking for and i take it that there the same as any other oil cooler as have a few kicking about and would i need a temp gauge and what sort of temp is ok cheers |

Just fit one of those slim ones that was fitted to some old vauxhalls, if you fit it to the rad inlet then it will give extra cooling but the box will still work right as the temp sensors are for water. _________________ |

so i just tee in to the pipe work already there then to add the new one do i put it in before the old one or after and then i take it i top up the atf in the gearbox is there any filters in the box while im under there many aswell service it to.
Looks like a jolly to the breakers next week after the mot |

Before is better, and the only filter is in the box and you have to take the box sump off
The reason for before is its a heat exchanger and the water warms the fluid so the box can work proper, if you put it after then it cant work proper. _________________ |

Right i get u now, i take it is a bit of a pain to take the sump of to get the filter out and would i need any special tools or would a oil change be ok cheers for the replys |

Right ive looked at that and then had a quick look at the monty and now there two pipes on the auto box which is the one i would fit the cooler in two.
As have bin in to halfords and they dont seem to do a manual on them any body know if the ones on eblag are any good, as theres a few cd ones on there unless any one would sell me one on here thanks for the replys marky |

Put a Kenlowe one on mine in front of the rad and plumbed into the feed to the internal rad cooler. Oil cooler gets hot in a short time after starting and I have never had any overheating when towing the caravan on petrol or LPG. I have recently also had to replace the steel pipe from the gearbox with a flexi hydraulic hose made up by Hydroscand with original end fittings as this rotted through and leaked oil. |
