Hey everyone.
I have a 11/2001 Holden Jackaroo. Running a 4jx1 manual.
I bought it like this.
Engine blows a puff of smoke on startup, which I know is normal.
It Idles fine and runs fine, however as soon as I drive it and put it under Load it bellows out white smoke.
Here is what I have done to it.
New injector sleeve seals and injector seals
New alternator
Compression test of 400psi in each cylinder
Cleaned the RPCV
Replaced Orps
Removed the quick warm up valve
Programmed orps
Programmed injectors as they were slightly off
Replaced 1 injector as it failed the tick test, it too got new seals
Programmed tps
It actually starts and runs alot better but I still have the issue of white smoke under load and once it starts smoking it will keep smoking until I turn it off and back on again afew minutes later.
The smoke is that bad it will fail a rego test.
I still have the egr connected, looking at possibly pulling the vacuum line and plugging it to see if that changes anything.
Any other ideas? |

I do have a YouTube link for it running but it won't let me post it. If you search YouTube it's called Smokey 4jx1 and it was only just uploaded today. |

Hi,
I watched your you tube video, the white vapour seems to clear pretty quickly could it be steam suggesting a head problem, does it use any coolant.

Not using any coolant, and to me it definitely had a diesel smell to it, it does sting the eyes too. |

I just posted another YouTube video. It's a copy of the recording from my tech 2. It's called the same thing but has number 2 at the end of it.
Our street is about 400m long, this recording is live data from that drive, which is me going to the end of our street and back.
One thing I was curious about is my injection timing is almost always in negative. Is that normal? |

Hi,
It seems normal to be negative alot of the time, have a look at the tech 2 graph of a known working 3.0 it may help you, it's in the first category in the main listings (general questions and answers.

I have removed the hose from the egr and blocked it, plus added some clear hose to the return line to see if it gets bubbles in it over night. |

So I managed to take it for a run today. My white smoke has now gone, however I do have blue smoke remaining. It's no where near the amount of the white smoke was but it's still very noticeable.
If I let it idle and rev it the smoke doesn't get worse so I'm not leaning towards valve stem oil seals.
Possibly an injector leaking internally? |

Hi,
Blue smoke normally suggests worn valve stem seals, worn piston rings or turbo charger.

It has good compression of 400psi in each cylinder. I spose it could be the oil rings.
Maybe a stuck oil control ring?
It doesn't have the characteristics of a valve stem oil seal to me. Starting it and giving it a rev doesn't produce blue smoke. It isn't until after I out the motor under load driving it that it starts to pump out.
The turbo is brand new too, the original turbo was leaking oil into the cold side so I replaced it |
