Hello,
I have a Trooper 3.0 from 2002.
When I want to start, the starter clicks but does not turn. New batteries.
Considering the size of the engine space, how can this starter be removed? Sounds very simple in the tech manual, but not easy to do on the vehicle?
Where can it come from?
Are there simple things to check before removing and changing the starter?
Best regards
Vincent

quite common on these is starter issues, i normally go through the wheel arch to remove the cables then underneath to remove the bolts and then the starter comes out from underneath as well. some people do remove the dipstick tube to make it easier

Hello,
Thanks for your answer, I haven't looked at my PC for a long time, and I left the trooper in a corner of the garage ....
I try like this and I keep you informed of my progress!

Hello,
I finally managed to remove the starter as you advised me, I also had to remove the small oil filter from the injection system. Thanks Eithan!
Before changing my alternator, to solve my problems (I hope) I heard of a charging relay that could cause battery charging problems while the alternator was running!
In fact, because of my starting problems, I changed my 2 batteries, and till that time, I have also charging problems I didn’t have before.

Can you explain to me how this relay works and where it is located on my lhd 2002 4jx1 trooper and if I have special things to check?

thank you

i think you mean the blue charge relay in the fusebox this is the one that buzzes when you fit aftermarket alternators, it's only job is to turn the battery light off when it gets the charge from the alternator, you can swap it with the one next to it to try and eliminate any charging issues

Hello Eithan,
Thanks for the information.
I was interested in my fuse box.
Sorry I can't post a picture because I'm a new user of this forum....
On the cover, it is mentioned a load relay, while the place is empty in the fuse box!
My tropper is a Euro3, I deduce that it was designed without this relay!
Should I conclude that I will not have a problem whatever the compatible alternator I buy?
Thanks again!
Vincent

Hello
the starter is changed, what a deal!
The trooper starts much better than before.
On the other hand, always battery charging problem, the charging light does not go out.
It's been like that since I changed my batteries believing that they were the ones causing my starting problem.
should i do some checks before changing the alternator?
thank you
vincent
