1992 3.0 litre Trooper.

A loud clonk comes from the front suspension when turning left, usually just one clonk rather than a continuous noise.  My initial thought was cv joint but local garage, not experienced with Troopers but sees lots of 4x4 vehicles, had a good look over it and reckons the torsion bars can dry out and stick in a central bush (?).  He greased the point where he thought this was occurring which made a slight difference initially but now it's back with a vengeance.

When driving normally there is no noise until turning left or going round a roundabout, although a severe bump can bring it on too.  I did also wonder about a broken anti-roll bar.

Is he right that this could be a cause of the noise or should he be looking somewhere else?

Thanks

Paul

Thanks Mark, we'll get him to put it back up on the lift and take another look.
