Looking for some advice thanks 2001 3.0 trooper

Bit of snow on the ground this morning so the trooper has been in 4 WD for 10 mins switch on the fly, the green light came on and off as normal. Now there’s a front end humming noise similar to a wheel bearing but they were both done in jan this year for MOT. Maybe I have a bad bearing which I’ll check when/if I get home

I was wondering though if anybody knows if the 4 WD system could be still engaged despite the light going on and off as normal and what I’m hearing is wind up of the system. If that’s the case I’m a bit worried about causing damage driving home. Typical the snows gone now.

Thanks

Update.
The noise that i described like a wheel bearing hum continued all the way home about 10 miles, jacked up yesterday and checked wheel bearings all good no play spun the wheels and all ok. Just had it out for a spin todasy and the noise has gone. A mystery!!
I'm going to say for now that engaging the 4wd yesterday has triggered something, maybe because it hasnt been used much this year, but its gone for now.
