Hi all,
I've just bought a 1994 SWB Trooper 3.1D. It is turbo intercooled with the bonnet scoop.
Whilst it starts and runs very well / smoothly, it seems to be lacking in power, as though the turbo is not doing anything at ll.
For example, I was driving yesterday with a 4 wheel plant trailer, total all up weight of about 900kg.
65 on the flat was about it. 50 up hills.
My2005 tdi passat pulls better.
I'd heard these engines were good for towing. Am i expecting too much?
Is this engine the 113 or 127 hp version? It's a genuine UK trooper, so has a cable operated injection pump.
I can;t hear the turbo, it won;t rev past 3000.
I'm suspecting the Quick warm up flap in the exhaust. I've tried to turn it from the outside and can't budge it at all, even with mole grips on it: this doesn;t seem right.
I've not looked at EGRs yet.
the engine has been serviced, the oil is new, the air filter good.
If it does use oil, it's very little. There's no smoke.
The exhaust is very soft and subdued..
Any advice or ideas?
