Thought it would be good to share the results of missing driveshaft circlips! The top one is from a 1990 2.8 Trooper which was run by the previous owner without a circlip on the end of the driveshaft. The one below is the replacement from a 1994 2.3 Frontera (identical). The damaged shaft only had to move 17mm to loose drive! The pitting on the top shaft is because the unshimmed shaft lets water in to the upright.

I had that happen to me on my 2.8 when playing off road. but I only noticed what had happened when I went to fit the new manual hubs as the clip fits in that groove thats worn away.
