This is on the 4L30e transmission of our 1997 Trooper 3.2l V6 .

I pulled the transmission out because the front seal was leaking badly. I have now fitted a new seal but I can see it is leaking before I reinstall the transmission.

To remove the old seal I had the transmission vertical.  While doing that I drained all the fluid out of the torque converter - 1.5 litres approx. Having fitted the new seal I filled the TC with 1.5 litres of fresh fluid. I reinstalled the TC, having generoulsy lubricated the lip of the new seal.

I then put the transmission into a horizontal position as I had to replace the pan gasket.  I was then rather dismayed to see a small quantity of fluid seeping down from behind the TC.

As far as I understand , this can only be leaking past the new seal?  

Hopefully I have misunderstood, and its perfectly all right.  I would attach a photo but can't see how to do it!

Any advice appreciated

To cut a long story short, installed the transmission and it still leaks noticeably from the front Torque Converter seal, when running.

Thoughts are that the pump bushing is worn to the extent that the resulting pressure is sufficient to overcome the lip seal.

Somewhat gutted after all that work!
