Righto, been to my local independant garage to have a chat, he basically said that I'd done everything they'd try other than maybe dropping the tank and cleaning it and the pickup/fuel pipes out. (this made me feel better about my spannering skills anyway!)
After that he said they'd send it to a diesel specialist as it could possibly be the injection pump and they just don't have the skills/facilities to do that or diagnose it. Trouble is my closest one is Bury which is a PITA. I'm gonna try dropping the tank (see my other post in general as I have a few questions) flushing the lines before I resort to that. It's booked in for an MoT on Friday so I need to try and do tis beforehand. It was fine for a short while this morning and then off it tailed again. It does seem to suggest a fuel feed proble if I'm honest. _________________ Phil

I could see it being the fuel injection pump as they do tend to wear out more being a VE rotary style. If you're closing in on 200,000 miles I could believe the pump is acting up, but then again it still may be a tank issue or the fuel lines. Usually diesel fuel injection pumps are not weak and you can see the rotary style pumps go for over 250k miles without any problems. Certain ones do tend to leak and I have mine leaking on my 82 Nissan Maxima now. The car has 215k on it. My dad's daily driver diesel car also recently began to leak at the top of the pump at 189k. Both cars use a VE rotary injection pump. We own 3 Isuzu diesels and none of there pumps are leaking and I've never seen one leak. So Phil, hopefully your pump on the 2.8 is just fine. If it's a tank or fuel line issue then you'll be squared away pretty soon. Good luck with the future work mate. |

a friend of mine has just had lack of power on his trooper, we changed the filter and all the pipes but still the same. he later found out the steel pipe on top of the fuel tank was corroded and dragging in air. not sure how he repaired it but will let you know |

I'm gonna give the outside of the tank a good dose of gunk and jetwash it off so I can see if it's OK, then the inside will get a soaking in POR15 Marine clean overnight and then a thorough rinse out and dry in the sun before going back in _________________ Phil
