so if my 3.1 is beyond repair i was reading that a 2.8 td will go straight in using my exsisting manifold etc,i am being quoted roughly £950-£1200 for a 3.1 how much could i expect to pay for a 2.8td and what model would i need to fit? thanks.

I'm no expert on what fits what but you can if lucky pick a full car up for less than £500 Very Happy

I should have said, the 2.8 is the same out of any car, just find a good one and your away Very Happy

HI put a 2.8 in a Monterey the donar vehicle was a Trooper 2 on a k plate the swap was straight forward enough,use the downpipe of the 3.1 so it will conect straight on to the excisting exhaust,take photos of the original engine in place especially the wiring and vacuum hoses these will come in handy i wish i had you can fit the gearbox as well but you will need the prop shaft off the donar vehicle as the trooper is asplined fitting as the monterey /trooper has a u/j ihpoe this helps
